Coach Stines Passes Away - Tommy Stines
Good evening fellow classmates.
It is with tears in my eyes and a lump in my throat that I am writing this.
My day, Tom Stines, passed away this morning after a long and difficult battle with cancer.
He was diagnosed with it back in the spring of 2006.
He underwent both radiation and two sessions of chemo but the Agent Orange induced cancer was just too much for him.
I know I am not the only one who has ever lost a parent nor am I looking for everyones sympathy.
I am putting this on here because he was more than a father to me, he was a coach to quite a few of our classmates.
He coached both little leage baseball and football for 5 plus years.
He made a lot of friends and touched a lot of lives in the short time he was on this Earth.
In my 6 years of coaching, he was always quick to point out what I was doing wrong and then proceed to tell me how they did it "back in the day".
I would always tell him he was wrong and then he would ask me about some of the kids that used to play for him.
I would do the best I could to keep him up to date on the ones that I kept in touch with.
The funeral service is Monday morning at 10:00 am at the Mark Griffith Funeral Home on 33rd West Avenue and Southwest Blvd.
He will be buried at Floral Haven in the Veterans Park.
Tommy Stines

You know that I (Doug & my whole family, too) am thinking of you and your family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Heavy was most definitely a one of a kind and I will always remember him with a smile and a laugh. Give your Mom and Sister a big hug for me.

Tommy,
I never never knew your Dad nor did i ever play for him, but as a Basball coach for the last 12 years I know how a person in that posistion can have a impact on so many kids lives. I know your dad did the same for a lot of kids as well and that will never be forgotten. I am truely sorry for your loss. Me and my family prayers will be with yours.

I lost my dad in 2004 after a long battle with phlebitis complications. It sucks even worse when they deteriorate slowly before your eyes and you are powerless to ease their suffering. Remember your father as the vibrant coach not the fading cancer casualty.
