Frequently Asked Questions (at least we think so)
Who does this site anyway?
Jennifer Atkinson (Shimp) is the one who keeps up with who's missing and stuff like that. She and Amy Dudding (Witte) put together the 15 year reunion. Todd Elgie is the webmonkey for the site; he got one too many spams from Classmates.com so while at his in-laws during Christmas 2001 he did something about it.
What about my privacy?
We're pretty paranoid regarding privacy. With the latest version of the site, all we're asking for is your e-mail address for info about reunion events and occasional "Where are they now?" e-mails, and your city/state/country info just to see how far and wide we all are now. The old site asked you for address and phone, but we don't need that since e-mail is all that's needed. Here's a real legal-ese privacy policy if you're curious. Todd's still formatting it..
We promise never to give out your info!
Who can see my e-mail address?
The three of us listed above and that's it. We have a new system where you can e-mail someone without them knowing your e-mail address. If you want to reply (and reveal your address to them) you can; otherwise just ignore it. Maybe they'll think you didn't get it, rather than you don't want to talk to them. hehe
There's still an option to hide my e-mail address though?
Yes, for the truly paranoid. :-)
What are the Business Cards?
That section is our attempt to keep the sales pitch out of our bios, and it is working well. Many times sites like these end up with bios like "Wife and three kids, and I'm working for [blank]. Give me a call and I can set you up with yada yada yada...." We wanted to avoid that scenario.
How do I put a link in my Bio or Business Card?
If you type out the full URL, like http://www.mysite.com it will become a link automatically.
What happened to the chat?
It's currently in the "Where are they now?" category. It was one of those things that was fun initially, but it wasn't used after that.
This new site looks like crap on my computer!
Uh, sorry about that. With the current design, our site will be more viewable on PDAs and cell phones as they become more common. We're still a few years out from the 20 year reunion, so we need to be looking ahead with regards to technology. It should look good in any 5.0+ version of a browser though.
I tried to do something on the site and it didn't work and/or some nasty "Parse error" message came up. What do I do?
Fill out the form below so Todd can fix it! 174 files and 7 db tables is a lot for him to keep up with, especially with his two-year old grabbing his mouse-hand! :-)
I have a question not answered here though!
Let us know!
What's the specs behind the site?
It started with Active Server Pages and Access 2000 running on IIS 5.0. Since Todd has some inexpensive Linux/Apache/PHP/MySQL hosting he already pays for, he decided to move it over to that platform.
The new version does away with <TABLE> tags to lay things out, instead using CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) to make it look pretty. Since browser support for CSS is improving all the time, he decided to take the plunge on this site before moving his 'real' client sites over to it.
It was designed on Windows 2000 with Mozilla 1.3 (tabbed browsing...yeah baby!), Internet Explorer 6.0 & 5.0, and MacOS 8.6 Internet Explorer 5.1. Feel free to e-mail Todd to discuss the gear-head stuff!
